"Saudi Arabia" Bezos phone hack claim is absurd | English News | Everyday Big News

The Saudi authorities have denounced reports that the kingdom's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had the mobile phone of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in a tweet the Embassy in Washingtonbranded the allegations absurd.
The reports say large amounts of data were extracted from the phone in 2018 after Bezos received a Whatsapp message allegedly from Prince Mohammed bin Salmanaccount let's talk to our security correspondent.
Gordon Carrera who is with me now and has been looking into this, you better give us the background,
GordenCorera: (Security Correspondent)
And what the allegations are these two men two of the most powerful men in the world.

Jeff Bezos haven't been summoned were at a dinner in Los Angeles and them exchanged phone numbers after that this was in the spring of 2018 and that shortly afterward Jeff Bezos phone received a message which appeared to come from a Saudi Crown prince’s account.
And that after that large amounts of data seemed to have started moving out of his phone the amount of data is always moving in and out of phones,
But increased 300 fold according to one report so suddenly it looks like some kind of malware could have been installed.
Because there was a video attached to a Whatsapp message and by clicking on the video,
It's thought although no one is quite sure about the technicalities of what specifically happened in this case that would have installed some kind of malicious software on the phone which then allowed large amounts of data to be extracted, that's the allegations have obviously been denied by the Saudi authorities,
But then there's also this suggests that a six months later more messages came into Jeff Bezos his phone and an account suggesting knowledge of his private life also from an account seemingly from the Crown Prince.
Which could be linked again to this extraction of data and of course the context of this as were very important is that it was in late 2018 that Jamal keshavjee who was a columnist at Washington Post newspaper.
Which is owned in turn by Jeff Bezos and which and who was highly critical of the Saudi government was killed in that  in a consulate in Turkey so a lot of tension between the two sides.
They've been these allegations of the surface before but there does appear to have been a technical report on what happened which has been produced,
But which hasn't been made public people have seen reports which provide this level of detail about what might have actually happened but as you said The Saudi embassy in Washington has denied.
It strongly we've heard from the Saudi embassy have we heard from Jeff Bezos, we have not at this point what we are expecting though in a couple of hours, time is a statement from UN reporters.
Who has been investigating the killing of Jamarkeshavjeeand have been investigating that and it looks as if from the statements.
They put out already that they will be talking about this hack and suggesting that this is something that they believe should be investigated by governments,
Because of that link in turn to Jamarkeshavjee and Jeff Bezos and the sandy crown prince, so it looks like a lot more might emerge wait for that and were expecting that in a few hours thanks so much, Gordon.
