A look at "Nato's" new Spy Drones
Donald Trump says he
wants the later allowance to do more this is one way they can do that these are
the first NATO owned,
And operated unmanned surveillance drones the Global Hawk based here in Sicily
can travel halfway around the world on one a tank of fuel it can stay up in the air for more than 30 hours pairing and surveillance,
Here, believe it or not, is the cockpit on the ground at Signorelli
the airbase in a side room where the sensor an operator sitting.
And over here the pilot flying the
aircraft of NATOwith just the click
of a mouse how'd he fly you fly is based on the IP system windows-based by a computer.
We don't have any control sticks
control yokes it's all via this little mouse right here it's a pretty big leap
forward to have our own organic intelligence surveillance reconnaissance
aircraft of NATO.
We don't have to rely on getting
time from somebody else it's ours so we can't ask it the way we want to task
it.
Intelligence Surveillance reconnaissance is also about understanding what is
going on close to our borders and we have seen a significant Russian military
buildup over the last years,
We saw how Russia used force against
Crimea and illegally annexing Crimea,
If we had the capability like that
and in 2014 we would have been able to understand much earlier and better what
was happening incoming though this drone is not armed it is still primarily a
military tool.
These unmanned systems are not
without controversy not least because they can make warfare seem more remote
they can also become a target, in fact, one of these U.S.
One was shot down last year by Iran
and at more than a hundred million
dollars each they don't come cheap you Nato's new
spy drones
